Today, we would like to celebrate the green initiative (or initiatives rather, plural!) of one of Saint-Laurent Boulevard’s business: Modèles Coiffure!
This hair salon is clearly ahead of the game when it comes to energy-saving and doing its share for the environment. In short, as seen in their press release (and mentioned on Salut Bonjour), “not only does the salon collaborate with people’s beauty, they also contribute to the planet’s beauty.” Isn’t that great? (To this, we would answer, “Yes, that’s amazing!”)
More specifically, they have changed all of their light bulbs for compact fluorescent and LED lights, which require much less energy. Furthermore, air conditioning and heating are controlled by a smart thermostat which allows you to save up to 20% in energy!
As for water usage, the towels are washed in cold water (they go through a ton of towels!) and their sink shower heads are ecofriendly.
Of course, they recycle paper, cardboard and plastic (It’s 2014. We should all be doing the same by now.). Moreover, they are members of Green Circle, a Canadian innovation that recycles foils, aerosol cans, color-tubes and other chemical products.
That’s not all. They also recycle hair! They do not simply throw the repurposed strands taken from your old look into the trash. After the recycling process, the hair is incorporated in a membrane specialized in gathering oil spills. Heaven forbid it happens, but it is always best to be prepared with the necessary tools in case it does. One kilogram of hair can gather two liters of oil or petroleum.
In short, we welcome these types of initiatives and are proud to find them in businesses on the Saint-Laurent Boulevard.
So, save the planet. Get your hair cut!
