On September 23rd, Divan Orange is celebrating its 10th anniversary!
Cultural meeting place and of musical discoveries, this establishment of the Main has made its mark with many past projects.
Far from resting on its laurels, the team at Divan Orange is working on many projects such as the creation of the Centre de diffusion des musiques émergentes (for more information, read
Do you remember the inauguration of the Main’s public piano, at the corner of St-Laurent and Prince-Arthur? The talented Mark Berube held a show of about an hour and a half and Prince-Arthur Street was packed with passersby who stopped to enjoy the free public show. Well, we are starting the experience over on August 29th! But this time, the piano will be at Parc des [...] After having visited 11 countries since 2001, the RedBall Project, from the New York artist Kurt Perschke, finally makes a stop in Montreal! RedBall Montreal will invade seven different locations over a period of seven days, exploring with insight and intelligence the unique qualities of Montreal architecture and urban space. And how can you visit Montreal without making a stop on the Main? Wednesday, September 3rd, it’s at Berson Monuments that you’ll be able to find the giant red ball. This tombstone business, established for nearly 100 years on the bou [...] Since we are lucky to have projects as stimulating, unique and unifying as the public pianos in Montreal, we have to take the opportunity to come together and have a good time. To unify all of Montreal in an artistic act, the public pianos will be animated on Wednesday August 20th at noon with the song ‘Tout le monde en même temps’ by Louis-Jean Cormier – good concept, right?! To give life to the works of music on the Saint-Laurent Boulevard pia [...] The black carpet awaits you! The 5th edition of the Mascara & Popcorn film festival will take place from Thursday, August 4th to Sunday, August 17th. Mascara & Popcorn can be found at the intersection of the visual, the auditive, the intellect and the emotional. The festival goes through the grim, the subversive, the poetic, the experimental and the visual transgression to provide a result that is a mixture of horror, comedy and entertainment. What is Mascara & Popcorn exactly? Beyond a festival that celebrates ind [...] Free tastings, stories from merchants and stroll on the Main. In collaboration with the Yellow Pages Group, the Saint-Laurent Boulevard is participating in the second edition of the Taste your neighbourhood event. A gourmet activity – for both your belly and your appetite for culture – this initiative from the Yellow Pages Group will have you discover several food shops of the Saint-Laurent Boulevard in the form of a stroll on Saturday, July 26th, from 2pm to 4pm. The Saint-Laurent Boulevard is as rich in tastes as it is in cult [...] On June 14, Saint-Laurent Boulevard’s very own Moksha Yoga studio will be celebrating its 10th year! That’s quite an achievement! After all, 10 years is pretty significant! Do you realize that Facebook was born 10 years ago? And that it was called The Facebook at first? And that it looked like this? For the most part, companies expand and improve over a 10 year span. This is exactly what happened to Moksha Yoga, one o [...] A parklet is an urban design relatively new to North America that allows people to reclaim public space. Last year, the Saint-Laurent Boulevard collaborated with the Plateau Mont-Royal borough to instal the very first parklet in Canada! It was so successful that it’ll be back again this summer. Passersby can stop to enjoy the view while enjoying a snack or a meal purchased from somewhere nearby, like a smoked meat sandwich from Schwartz’s, an ice cream cone from Ripples or a chicken sandwich from Coco Rico. The parklet has also been painted by Philippe Mastrocola to m [...] Recharge your batteries for awhile on the Saint-Laurent Boulevard! With yoga’s rise in popularity and summer just around the corner, we suggest, for a second consecutive year, free yoga classes in the park. Every Sunday from July 6th to August 24th, between 11 AM and noon, Moksha Yoga welcomes everyone who wishes to take care of themselves to the Parc des Amériques – beginners as well as more experienced yogis. Fun fact: Hatha yoga is a form of yoga frequently practiced in the western culture; it is, among other things, what inspired many of the practi [...] The 2014 edition of Mix’Arts Festival from August 21st-24th will have entertainment provided by the Festival de théâtre de rue de Lachine whose spokesperson is none other than the invincible Rémi-Pierre Paquin (from the show Les Invincibles – see what we did there?). This will be a new approach for the festival where innovative and original performers and musical groups will take over public spaces to share a unique experience with the participants. On the Saint-Laurent Boulevard, anything nonconformist is very much appreciated which is why it is a matc [...] MARK BERUBE AT THE PUBLIC PIANO AT PARC DES AMÉRIQUES
